Sounding Pattern, interactive ambi-sonic installation, The Courthouse Gallery, Ireland, 2018
Sounding Pattern
Sounding Pattern is an interactive multi-sensory immersive installation involving sound, scent and texture.
Participants enter a deeply cocooning and hospitable space; a damp dark aromatic hazel woodland nestled in the back room of The Courthouse Gallery, Ennistymon, Ireland. Ambisonic sounds of the woodland permeate the space. Participants experience a live hazel tree hooked up to a device that enables the plant to ‘sing’ in real time by mapping its electromagnetic vibrations to an audible frequency spectrum in response to the participants. The tree’s ‘song’ becomes visible through the use of a fine powder vibrating in a speaker.
This piece of work is inspired by Tanya's understanding that there is consciousness in all living things and that consciousness communicates continuously through electromagnetic vibrations.
